Boba Fett

The Good, the Bad, and the Mandolorian

Boba Fett is a testament to how much SW has captured the imagination of millions (billions?) of people worldwide!

Case in point: the bounty hunter Boba Fett.

A minor character with very little screen time, a couple of lines (one of which was him screaming as he “died”) and a cool looking helmet; yet he is one of the most iconic characters!Boba Fett

Boba Fett is a character that became so popular over the years since the Empire Strikes Back released that when the prequel trilogy was being conceptualized (be nice, don’t be a hater) they included Boba Fett as having something to do that was central to the entire story.

Celara To’kessi

Jedi Swordswoman/Healer Extraordinaire

The Jedi, before their extermination at the hands of Darth Vader and Order 66, were an amazing collection of individuals from thousands of species that sometimes clung to the cultures and traditions of their people while adhering to the Jedi ways they were trained in since infancy.

Another interesting aspect of the Jedi is that of their role as warrior monks policing the galaxy to maintain peace throughout the galaxy.

Peaceful yet deadly, humble yet possessing a power that few could understand which made them gods among men (and Wookies, and Hutts, etc.). Continue reading “Celara To’kessi”

Darth Maul

A Tattooed Demon That Refused to Stay Dead!

With as deadly serious about allowing non-cannon stuff into the sandbox that was George Lucas’s baby, there is something to be said for a monstrous fan following so strong that Lucas approved of a character that he killed in one of the films to be brought back!

Darth Maul was the coolest bad guy anyone had seen since Darth Vader stepped onto the screen in A New Hope; he was mysterious, had a terrifying appearance, and wielded a scary new weapon that prompted lightsaber toy sales into orbit.

The Zabrak Sith Lord didn’t have a lot of screen time in Episode I, The Phantom Menace, but when he was on screen his presence was felt (in large part due to the creepy choral whispers in his theme music)!

Read This Post, You Will

Yep. I went there!

How does a 900-year-old, 2ft tall, green skinned, pointy-eared little goblin of a Jedi master make us love him so much?

Contradictions maybe?

If you start your SW journey in the order that is best (I think so, get over it), you meet a little green giggling Muppet laughing at a shipwrecked Luke who followed a vision to a slimy mudhole.

What is really going on? One of the most powerful Jedi masters in the thousands of years the Jedi have been swinging laser swords is testing this punk kid who is the galaxy’s last hope. Continue reading “Yoda”

HK-47: The Bane of Meat-Bags

To quote C3-PO, “Shut me down!”

So much has happened since my “about me” post! To make a sad novel into a very short story, my ex and baby momma (I have custody of said kiddo) decided to try to take me back to court to reverse a court order making me the custodial parent of our son. I have to give a huge shout out to Heather at for helping me to keep my best buddy where he belongs. Check these guys out!

Down to business: HK-47!This assassin droid from the era known as KOTOR (Knights of the Old Republic), thousands of years before the films, is a fan favorite; and for good reason!

Darth Vader

The Tall, Dark, and Breathy Monster that was Darth Vader

Darth Vader.

When you read those two words, you will have two reactions (if not more).

The first reaction is your personal memories of seeing Darth Vader for the first time, while the second is probably hearing his scuba tank apparatus breathing in your head (which, btw, is where they got the iconic breathing sound associated with the man in black).

For yours truly, watching Vader hold the captain of the rebel ship in Episode IV, A New Hope, off the ground and furiously interrogate him before crushing his windpipe and tossing him aside like a simple obstacle was the point that I was intimidated. It only gets worse (better) from there.

Origins: We learn a roundabout and somewhat deceptive origin story from Obi-Wan Kenobi when he tells a young Luke Skywalker that Vader was Obi’s student that turned to the darkside and killed Anakin Skywalker, Luke’s daddy. It is fun to see how and where Vader actually came from throughout the films (even if it is more than a little heartbreaking) including his transformation from fallen Jedi Knight to Sith Lord to ¾ machine man but through media other than the movies we get to see who Vader was after the fire.

Lord Vader may have been the dupe of grand schemer Darth Sidious/Emperor Palpatine, but he was no pushover! And though he was chopped up and cooked next to a river of lava, Darth Vader was really forged by his time hunting down the Jedi one by one and helping the Dr. Evil of the SW galaxy bring it to heel under a big, shiny, black boot. Vader is also shades of the Russian historical figure Grigori Rasputin for reasons beyond the physical, check it out, it’s deep if you think about it!

Oh yeah, not to mention he exterminated the Jedi, with a few exceptions, while having his connection to the force extremely weakened by being mostly machine. Scary.

Powers and Abilities: Anakin was brought to life by the force, and Darth Vader was a master of using it to cause fear and death. Vader’s mobility was more limited than before he was reassembled with droid parts and living on a built-in respirator and healing tank, but his ferocity made up for this handicap many times over. Vader could crush the life out of people multiple star systems away via Skype (the SW equivalent, amazing how we catch up to sci-fi in the real world), take on massive amounts of attackers and cut through them like wheat, and so much more.

My Thoughts: Darth Vader was so many things wrapped into one. Tragedy, terror, rage, regret (google search “Vader finds C3-PO,” oh the feels!) loyal, murderously rebellious and vengeful, this list goes on.

Darth Vader is also, IMHO, who we relate to the most overall. Allow me to wax philosophical for a moment and I will explain briefly.

What moments in your life, where things went terribly wrong, and you were partially responsible at least, changed you into the person you are?

Let that sink in for a moment, then look at what happened to Anakin Skywalker, and what Darth Vader must have carried around for a quarter of a century inside his armored dome.

We also want to have hope that despite what we have become or done that the hero we want to be lurks in the shadow of all of that somewhere; a small hope but one that is un-killable.

You (and I) are Darth Vader, which is sad and beautiful at the same time.

Drop the mic.

Hit me up next time for my thoughts on one of the coolest SW Legends characters: HK-47

Anakin Skywalker

The Chosen One

I know what you might be thinking right now.

“Did he really start things off with Vader?”

“Isn’t that a little cliché?”

If this is going through your head right now let me give an answer to those thinks…

No, I did not start things off with Darth Vader (he’s coming next), I started things off with Anakin Skywalker. As Obi-Wan tells Luke after he learns of his parentage to the Dark Lord of the Sith, “Your father… was seduced by the Dark Side of the Force. He ceased to be the Jedi Anakin Skywalker and “became” Darth Vader. When that happened, the good man who was your father was destroyed.” Continue reading “Anakin Skywalker”
